Most Amazing And Famous French Monuments

French monuments take you to the developments around medieval Europe and the Renaissance. This home of culture and architecture has been attracting tourists from all over the world. More than 82 million tourists visit the country every year to visit the following famous places in France.

Louvre Pyramid

In the novel by Dan Brown, ‘Da Vinci Code’, he mentioned Louvre Pyramid, made up of glass and metal and the courtyard of the Musée du Louvrein Paris. After this, the place has gained much popularity. It was completed in 1989 and was commissioned by François Mitterrand, the French President, in 1984. It was designed by I. M. Pei and is made up of several gass segments held together. It has a height of 70 feet and base of 115 ft is constructed out of 673 triangular and rhombus-shaped glass segments. This structure is an attraction for the architects, tourists and students all over the world.


Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Reims

The place where Saint Remi baptized Clovis, in 496 AD, this Roman Catholic cathedral was made which was destroyed in a fire in 1211. Today this is the seat of the Archbishop. This place offers masterpieces including the 267 ft tall towers and two great bells; one of which weighs 11 tons.


Basilica of St Denis

It is one of the most visited abbey churches in the world. Currently the seat of Bishop Pascal Michel Ghislain Delannoy, this cathedral was founded in the 7th century. The place is also known as the ‘coronation’ site, built in true Gothic style and is also a place of pilgrimage for the locals. Saint Denis;s remains were found here in the Dagobert I discovery.


Eiffel Tower
An iron structure constructed on the Champ de Mars in Paris is a famous tourist attraction. Tour Eiffel or The Eiffel Tower has got its name from its engineer “Gustave Eiffel”. Tower has a height of 1,063 ft and weighs 10,000 tones and also has been recorded as the world’s most visited site.


Chinon
It is a castle located by the Vienne river and that is why it was a major stop along medieval trade routes. Bank rocks provided the castle protection from annual flooding of the river and also gave the castle a fort like look. It covers an area of over 400 m in length and 76 m width. A 14th century clock tower also stands here at a height of 115 feet. And most importantly, castle was the primary home of King Henry and Charles VII.
